“Everywhere there is a tendency to substitute the work of organizations for individual effort….Multitudes leave to institutions and organizations the work of benevolence; they excuse themselves from contact with the world, and their hearts grow cold….Christ commits to His followers an individual work,…a work that cannot be done by proxy. Ministry to the sick and the poor, the giving of the gospel to the lost, is not to be left to committees or organized charities. Individual responsibility, individual effort, personal sacrifice, is the requirement of the gospel.”

“The time is at hand when there will be sorrow in the world that no human balm can heal. The Spirit of God is being withdrawn. Disasters by sea and by land follow one another in quick succession. How frequently we hear of earthquakes and tornados, of destruction by fire and flood, with great loss of life and property!”
“We know very little of the human suffering that exist everywhere about us, but as we have opportunity we should be ready to render immediate assistance to those who are under severe pressure.”
